For Chelsea — From the Sister Who Had the Best Seat in the House

By Cheyenne

To her customers, Chelsea is the heart behind Raw Organic Clothing. To her family, she is Mama, Honey, Auntie, and Chels. But to me, she will always be my little sister. This Mother's Day, I want to share a little bit of her story.

To truly know Chelsea, we are going to have to go back. Way back. Back into time. (For those of us who grew up listening to Blackstreet, you already know.)

On Halloween night 1992, the excitement was at an all-time high. The neighborhood was buzzing, kids were already making their way down the street in their costumes, and I was dressed in what I can only describe as the sweetest angel costume to ever grace Halloween night (at least in my humble opinion). My two-year-old brother was beside me in his vampire costume, ready to collect every piece of candy in sight. In what would become the most typical Chelsea fashion, she chose the coolest holiday of the year to make her grand entrance into the world.

Before that night, I had held the title of only granddaughter comfortably for four years. To say I handled this sudden and unexpected change well would be a lie. For the next 15 years, what looked like rivalry to everyone else was really the language of two sisters who loved each other enough to challenge each other, protect each other, and help shape the women we would eventually become. And honestly, I would not change a single second of it.

For about 12 years of our childhood, Chelsea and I shared a bed. Well, Chelsea, her dolls, and I shared a bed. I was older and I made the rules, but she was younger, with big blue eyes and blonde curls, and somehow that always won. The sleeping arrangements were no exception. Every night without fail, Chelsea would insist her dolls got their fair portion of the bed. They each had their own pillow, shared our blankets, and somehow managed to take up far more space than anything without a heartbeat ever should. Only after every doll was carefully settled in for the night would Chelsea finally close her eyes. And then, inevitably, she would roll right over to my side of the bed and curl up into me anyway.

Every single night.

The dolls kept the pillow. Chelsea always came to find her person. She just wanted to be close to the people she loved.

She still does.

When my husband and I found out we were expecting Khyla, Chelsea was the first person we called. Honestly, she was probably the first person we called for everything back then. From grocery runs and babysitting to late nights and diaper changes, she was just there in the steadfast way she always has been. There were even nights she stayed over just to take fifteen-minute shifts with a colicky Khyla so we could all survive until morning.

When Khyla was two, Chelsea walked into my office doing her best to hold something in. I could see it the moment she came through the door. Her face was trying to stay calm, but her eyes gave her away completely. She pulled out the ultrasound photo and there it was. The cutest little bean I had ever seen. That was the first time I saw Faith. We stood there together in the middle of my workday, two sisters, and for a moment it was just that. One of the best moments of my life.

That transition from auntie to mom was one she let us be part of from the very start. Just two months later I found out I was pregnant with Tristan, and what could have become two separate journeys never felt that way. Chelsea made sure of that. She has always had a way of making the people she loves feel like they belong in her most important moments, and this was no different.

Khyla, two years old and completely certain of her role, would make us both sit on the couch while she sang to the babies and rubbed lotion on our bellies, talking to them softly the entire time. In those moments I could see Chelsea's influence on my own daughter, and I was in complete awe.

The same tenderness. The same seriousness. The same certainty that the people around her deserved to be loved well.

I was so proud watching Khyla, and so proud of the sister who had quietly shaped her without even trying.

Her daughter Faith just celebrated her 15th birthday this April. My son Tristan turns 15 in July. And Khyla, the baby Chelsea helped us raise from her very first days, is a senior in high school now, turning 18 this August and getting ready to step into a whole new chapter of her own.

We were doing this together. We still are.

Chelsea became the kind of mother who could somehow make a loud, busy house feel safe, steady, and full of love.

Six kids. Six wildly different personalities, six whole hearts, and somehow Chelsea makes every single one of them feel like the most important person in the room. Every single time.

When she created Raw Organic Clothing, she built it with that same spirit.

Every product, every blog, every newsletter, every late night spent researching ingredients or testing items came from the same place: the deep belief that people deserve care, honesty, and intention.

I had the best seat in the house watching her build it. I watched her learn Shopify from scratch, figure out social media, write blogs and newsletters, create ways for customers to save money, and personally vet every item before it ever became available. She taught herself all of it because she believed families deserved someone willing to do the work carefully, honestly, and completely.

Mama, I know you are crying by now. I am sorry. But grab a few more tissues because I am not done yet.

Chelsea, I have watched you tackle every challenge one step at a time and refuse to stop until it was right. Time and time again, I have watched you choose what is good for your family over what is easy, and that is not a small thing. That is everything.

You built something real out of love, determination, and sheer persistence. And honestly, knowing you the way I do, that is the least surprising thing in the world. More than any title you hold, you are your own person. Beautiful, determined, and completely yourself in a way that gives everyone around you permission to do the same.

You are one of the strongest women I know. And the way your nieces and nephews love you, the way they light up around you, that says everything about who you are that words never could. You have always been capable of more than you give yourself credit for. I have always known it, even on the days you forgot.

I am so proud of you. I have always been so proud of you.

And to everyone out there, there are so many people just like Chelsea. Giving life everything they have, carrying people through the chaos and the celebrations and the ordinary Tuesdays, expecting nothing in return. You may not always hear it, but this is for you too. You are seen. You are celebrated. And the people around you are better because of everything you quietly give.

Chelsea, thank you for being exactly who you are. For never taking the easy road, for always making room for the people you love, and for showing the rest of us what it looks like to show up fully.

All of us are better for having you in our corner.

Happy Mother's Day, Chels.

From your biggest hater, I mean fan, always.
